"CREATE PHOTOGRAPHY THAT INFORMS, INSPIRES AND ENLIGHTENS."

ABOUT ME

RON STEPHENS JR.

VISUAL STORY TELLER

BASED IN PHILADELPHIA AREA

What's good everyone!?

I'm Ron and I'm a black photographer who is passionate about telling stories that affect our communities, people and culture while highlighting our voice so that we can be seen and heard.

I was born and raised in Philly by my grandparents Frank and Jeannette. My grandfather was an artist and graphic designer and my grandmother was a teacher. I spent my childhood running around Mt. Airy and participated in a ton of extra-curricular activities outside of school like chess, basketball, football and throwing snowballs at neighbors, but photography was not one of them. I didn't think I had a creative bone in my body. I couldn't sing, dance, draw, paint or act. All I knew was that I wanted to be somebody and make something of myself. So I took the path that society tells you to take. Go to school, graduate college, get a good job and take care of your family.

After graduating from college in Miami, several years working my corporate job and many conversations with my wife Cristina, I realized how important it is to learn your gifts, find your purpose and use that to create change and happiness. I didn't exactly know what that was for me but my wife sure did. She's a chef and when I say she can cook, she can COOOOOK! Her food brings people together and I wanted to help her do that. So I set out to get her a website and get myself a camera so I could at least take some half decent photos of her masterpieces.

I purchased my first camera in 2018. I started to do some research, learn the basics, discover great photographers and completely fell in love with photography and what you can do with it. The next thing you know, I'm taking food pictures, pictures at events, portrait sessions and street photography. I soon realized the history of photography and the power of the lens and how I could contribute by telling untold stories and giving a voice to the unheard.

My vision is to create photographs that informs, inspires and enlightens. Documentary photography and becoming a visual journalist is now more than a passion, it's a purpose and this is my journey.
